Jada Pinkett Smith has revealed Tupac once asked her to marry him. This recent revelation comes amid a storm of criticisms over her new memoir, where she dishes shocking details about her marriage to actor Will Smith.
During an interview on All The Smoke podcast, Pinkett Smith talks about her new book, Worthy and highlighted a chapter where Tupac proposed to her while he was serving time at Rikers Island for alleged sexual abuse.
“When I wrote about that in the book and when I had to talk about it, speak my words for the audiobook version of the book. That was probably one of the most painful parts,” Pinkett Smith told hosts Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson. “Seeing him there, the condition he was in and having to leave him there. He was in bad shape.”
“And so when he asked me to get married, I knew at that time that he needed somebody to do time with him, which I was going to do anyway. He didn’t have to marry me to do that,” she added.
Pinkett Smith believes that Tupac “needed a rock” and turned to her “because of everything we had been through together’ during their friendship, “He just wanted to feel that solidified foundation. Because I promise you he would have married me and divorced me as soon as his ass left [laughs].”

In a separate interview with Rolling Out, Pinkett Smith said she and Tupac shared a “soulmate friendship.” She also cleared the air once again on claims that she and the late controversial rapper ever had a romantic relationship.
“It just wasn’t possible; there was no chemistry between us,” she said. “Let me tell you, don’t think that ‘Pac and I, like I write in the book, we had those moments, and I wish I could get people to understand the repelling nature. It was almost like God made us that way.”
Pinkett Smith’s memoir, “Worthy,” will be released on October 17.
