Los Angeles, CA – Naomi Osaka has welcomed her first child, a baby girl. According to multiple reports, the child was born on Tuesday, July 10 in Los Angeles.
TMZ adds Osaka’s rapper boyfriend, Cordae announced the new born’s arrival during a show in Calgary.
“My daughter Shai was just born a couple days ago, so I dedicate this performance to my baby girl Shai,” he said between breaks. “Love you, I’m going back home,” he added.
In early April, Osaka, 25, told a Japanese journalist that her baby was due in June or July.
“The baby is due in June or July, so I have August, September, October, November and December,” She said.
The couple has not yet released any details about the baby’s name or weight.
Earlier this year, the four-time Grand Slam champion announced her pregnancy with a photo of her sonogram on social media. In the lengthy caption, she said that she was excited to embark on this new chapter and that she was looking forward to all the challenges and rewards that come with being a mom.
“The past few years have been interesting to say the least, but I find that its the most challenging times in life that may be the most fun. These few months away from the sport has really given me a new love and appreciation for the game I’ve dedicated my life to. I realise that life is so short and I don’t take any moment for granted, everyday is a new blessing and adventure,” she said at the time.
“I know that I have so much to look forward to in the future, one thing I’m looking forward to is for my kid to watch one of my matches and tell someone, ‘that’s my mom.”
About a month before the birth of their new born, Naomi and Cordae hosted a lavish pink-themed baby shower where they revealed they were expecting a girl.
“A little princess is on the way,” read a sign at Osaka’s baby gender-reveal party.
Osaka is currently taking a break from tennis, but she has said that she plans to return to competition in 2024.
Congratulations to the couple.
