In a recent video shared on his Instagram Stories, Rick Ross openly expressed his interest in signing ostracized rapper Kanye West to Maybach Music Group. While cruising in his car, the Philly rapper, who was in the midst of enjoying some Kanye West tracks, shared, “I just had an amazing idea. A boss idea.”
He went on to elaborate, “This is something that is extremely realistic to me. We’ve created amazing masterpieces in the past. The boss Ricky Rozay is interested in signing Kanye West. Maybach Music, Ye! What’s up? Talk to me. Let’s make history.”
Ross’s offer comes after West’s recent split with Def Jam Recordings. The controversial rapper has been seeking a new distributor for his upcoming album, and Ross believes that MMG would be the perfect fit.
“Imagine if Ye came and allowed MMG to distribute his new project,” Ross said in a follow up video. “Imagine that. What’s your favorite Rick Ross, Ye collab? Imagine that. Imagine the artistic drive. And I got some amazing ideas for the Yeezy brand. Amazing ideas for the Yeezy brand! Let’s speak.”
Rick Ross and Kanye West have collaborated on a number of successful songs in the past, including “Devil in a New Dress,” “Live Fast, Die Young,” and “Maybach Music 2.” A partnership between the two would be a major coup for MMG.
Kanye is reportedly shopping for a partner to distribute his forthcoming collaborative album with Ty Dolla $ign, which was initially planned to drop on Friday (October 13). According to Billboard, some labels refused to distribute the project due to Ye’s antisemitic remarks. However, the antisemitic controversy was not enough to dissuade every label, as Billboard reports that West is considering five offers and expects to make his decision soon.
Meanwhile, Rick Ross is currently preparing for the release of “Too Good To Be True,” his collaborative album with longtime affiliate Meek Mill. The effort scheduled to drop November 10 has already spawned two singles; “Shaq & Kobe,” and “Lyrical Eazy.”
