The internet’s obsession with hypotheticals and light-hearted debates gave rise to the now viral question about whether people would take dinner with Jay Z or $500,000. While the correct answer is $500k (always take the money), some social media users are convinced dinner with the billionaire rapper would offer them an opportunity to life changing wisdom.
As the debate rages on, Jay-Z himself has chimed in on the discussion. In a rare interview with Gayle King on CBS News, the Roc Nation mogul put an end to the debate, advising fans to opt for the money.
“You gotta take the money,” he responded without much hesitation. “What I’ma say? You got all that [wisdom] in the music for $10.99! That’s a bad deal. I wouldn’t tell you to cut a bad deal. Take the $500,000, go buy some albums and listen to the albums — it’s all there!
“If you piece it together and really listen to the music for the words, for what it is, it’s all there. Everything that I said was gonna happen, happened. Everything that I said I wanted to do, I’ve done. There’s the blueprint. The blueprint, literally, to me and my life and my journey is there already.”

The “$500K or dinner with JAY-Z?” debate originally took over social media in 2021, with fans and personalities alike joining in on the fun. Even TIDAL, the rap legend’s former streaming platform, weighed in, telling fans on Twitter to take the money.
Earlier this month, a fan brought up the debate at SoFi stadium. “Hey Hov, I’m taking that $500k,” the man said. “I ain’t taking that dinner, I’m taking that $500k. You feel me? It’s love, though.”
Jay-Z seemed confused by the encounter, but he simply smiled, gave the fan a fist bump, and walked away.
Are you still taking dinner with Jay-Z?
