Meek Mill has parted ways with Roc Nation management, according to a recent report by Billboard. The outlet reports the Philadelphia rapper is no longer listed on the company’s website and has been removed from their social media pages.
Meek Mill signed a management deal with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation in 2012, but hasn’t enjoyed much commercial success since signing with the Roc. Earlier this year, the rapper expressed his frustration with Roc Nation and his label, Atlantic Records, for not promoting his latest album, Expensive Pain, which debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200.
“They didn’t put nothing into expensive pain and then said I can’t drop another project for 9 months at the end of my contract after I made them 100’s of millions ….. how would can anybody survive that … most rappers can’t speak because they depend on these companies “I don’t,” Meek tweeted in February.
He went on to berate the label for not allowing him to release music on his own accord and for damaging his relationship with Roddy Ricch. “So look I made Atlantic records 100’s of millions and let them rape me out out Roddy a artist they came to me about in jail … they still saying I can’t drop music until 9 months after my last album got blackballed just wrapped buildings and Nina art with talent.”
He continued, “Roddy my youngin still …. But that label seperated us instantly when the millions came in from him… same thing they tried to do with me and rozay … it takes a long time to catch up too because most of em tied in for the love of some money …artist scared to speak up.”
It’s not exactly known at this time if his split with Roc Nation affects the joint venture deal he signed for his Dreamchasers label in 2019, as well as Reform Alliance — a non-profit organization he created with Jay-Z to eliminate unjust sentencing laws in the United States. The organization was set up after Hov played a pivotal role in getting him released from his four-year sentencing for probation violation.
“The sentence handed down by the Judge — against the recommendation of the Assistant District Attorney and Probation Officer — is unjust and heavy handed” Jay-Z wrote in a rare Facebook post.
“We will always stand by and support Meek Mill, both as he attempts to right this wrongful sentence and then in returning to his musical career.”
