The Lox’s beef with Roc-A-Fella in the early 2000s was serious and could’ve turned out ugly, says Styles P. While speaking with The Art Of Dialogue, P touched on the seriousness of the feud and how it differed from their beef with 50 Cent and G-Unit.
“We was so cool beforehand. We bumped into each other in a lot of places, we rocked with each other, we chilled to a certain extent in the studio and certain places so it was kind of personal,” P said.
“The 50 shit wasn’t personal at all,” Styles P continued, referencing The Lox’a previous run-in with 50 Cent. “The Roc-A-Fella joint was actually personal so that coulda went wrong, that coulda went all the way wrong and it was more ego and pride. Two camps who kind of you know do the same shit and run around the city, the tri-state and all the states doing the same kind of flow so that could’ve gone real ugly,” P admitted.
You While Styles P claims he doesn’t remember what started the beef, He previously revealed during an interview on Math Hoffa’s My Expert Opinion podcast that the beef started because Jay-Z kept hopping on songs that Jadakiss already did to diss him.
“You already know what Hov and Dame and them were doing, so that was more personal for me. Kiss and Hov kept being on the same remixes and something happened. It just felt like they were aiming at Kiss for me. Kiss is our Derek Jeter. Where we from, you fuck with one of us, you fuck with everybody.”
During the interview with Math Hoffa, SP also opened up about how he wanted to shoot Hov and Beans over the beef. “I would’ve shot Beans and HOV at that time, I wouldn’t have shot 50. There was no emotional ties into it,” he explained. “With Beans and HOV it was more like I got love for them and this is our story when we came up. At that time, I had two guns on me every day — not because of them but because of life.”
In his interview with The Art Of Dialogue, he doubled-down on his remarks, and pointed out Beanie Sigel would’ve shot at him also.
