Veteran British comedy actress Angela Thorne died on January 26, at the age of 84. The cause of death was not publicly disclosed, but her family confirmed her passing in a statement saying, “we will miss her very much.”
“The actress Angela Thorne died peacefully at her home on the 16th of June. She was 84 years old. She was the beloved wife of Peter Penry-Jones, and is survived by her two sons Rupert and Laurie Penry Jones and her grandchildren, Florence, Peter, Giorgio and Delilah. We will all miss her very much.”
Angela Thorne was born on January 25, 1939, in Karachi, British India (now Pakistan). After graduating from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, Thorne made her professional debut in 1960. She went on to appear in numerous stage productions, but ultimately gained prominence for her role as Marjory Frobisher in the popular British sitcom “To the Manor Born” (1979-1981), alongside Penelope Keith. The show became a hit and garnered a large fan base, solidifying Thorne’s reputation as a talented comedic actress.
Thorne has appeared in various other television series, including “Mapp & Lucia” (1985), “You Rang, M’Lord?” (1988-1993), and “Anyone for Denis?” (1982). In addition to television, Thorne has worked in film, with notable roles in movies such as “To Sir, with Love” (1967) and “Separate Tables” (1983).
While Angela Thorne may not have achieved international fame, she is well-respected within the British entertainment industry and has left a lasting impact with her contributions to television, film, and theater.
