North West’s Favorite Song Is a Kanye West Classic

In a recent i-D cover story with Vice Media, Kanye West and Kim Kardashian’s eldest daughter, North West shared her passion for the arts and various hobbies. She enthusiastically stated, “I like singing, and performing is my favorite,” attributing her talents mostly to herself, “and then a little bit of my dad.”

The 10-year-old reality star proudly revealed that her favorite song at the moment is Kanye’s classic hit “Through the Wire,” which he recorded with his jaw wired shut after a life-threatening car crash in October 2002. Released in 2003, the song served as West’s debut solo single, sampling Chaka Khan’s 1985 hit “Through the Fire.”

Elsewhere in the conversation with i-D for their The New Wave issue, North shared her ambitions to take over the family businesses. When asked about her future aspirations, she replied, “A basketball player, a rapper, um… Well, when I was seven, I wanted to be a boxer. But now I don’t want to be a boxer. I’m going to do art on the side.”

“When I’m, like, 13, I want to walk dogs, to make money to buy art supplies, because everything around here is so expensive,” she continued. “So a rapper, a basketball player, and I’m going to make artwork that I sell. Also, one day I want to own Yeezy and SKIMS, and I want to be a business owner.”

Yeezy line is a collaboration between Kanye West and Adidas that was first launched in 2015. The line includes a variety of sneakers, apparel, and accessories. Skims, on the other hand, is a shapewear and loungewear brand co-founded by Kim Kardashian and Jens Grede in 2019. According to The New York Times, the shapewear brand is valued at an impressive $4 billion after expanding into loungewear and swimwear.

North West’s interview with i-D followed her recent viral moment when she dressed up as Dropout Bear from her father’s “Graduation” album for Halloween.
