Travis Scott’s Utopia Concert at Pyramids of Giza Officially Canceled

Cairo, Egypt – The Travis Scott Utopia concert at Egypt’s Pyramids Of Giza has been canceled, just two days before it was scheduled to take place. In a statement released on Wednesday (July 26), Live Nation, the organizing company, cited complex production challenges as the primary reason for the show’s cancellation.

“We regret to inform you that the UTOPIA show, originally scheduled for July 28th at the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt is cancelled,” Live Nation Middle East said in a statement. “Unfortunately, despite highest efforts, complex production issues meant that the show could not be constructed in the desert. We understand that this news is disappointing and not the outcome any of us desired.”

According to the announcement, refunds will be issued to ticket holders at their point of purchase.

Earlier this month there were multiple reports that Egypt wasn’t going to allow Scott to perform in front of their sacred monuments. The Egyptian Musicians Syndicate, which is responsible for issuing permits for concerts in Egypt, cited “strange rituals” at Scott’s concerts that they said were “inconsistent with Egyptian values” as the reason for the cancellation. The syndicate also expressed concern about the safety of the concert, given the large number of people who were expected to attend. It’s unclear if that contributed to the cancellation.

Despite the unfortunate news, Scott is going ahead with the release of his fourth studio album. The 32-year-old artist shared multiple cover arts for the LP and a trailer for its accompanying film Circus Maximus.

The covers, posted by the Houston rapper on Tuesday (July 25) feature five different men with frightening pupils wearing tattered clothing and holding worn-down money while sitting in an old car.

“THIS IS ONE OF THE COVERS FOR MY 4TH ALBUM UTOPIA SHOT BY PIETER HUGO THE JOURNEY THRU THE ALBUM TOOK ME ALL OVER THE WORLD AND CANT WAIT TO FINALLY DROP THE ALBUM THE MAIN COVER WILL DROP THURS UNTIL THEN A COVER EVERYDAY LOVE U SEE U IN UTOPIA,” he wrote in the post’s caption.

The “Circus Maximus” trailer for the film releasing on Thursday (July 27) opens from the bottom of a deep hole in the ground before transitioning to scenes of the Astroworld artist sitting at a table, a car speeding down an empty street, Scott being encircled by several men, an empty arena, and much more nondescript clips.
