Melle Mel’s recent untitled diss track directed at Eminem has elicited a strong wave of disappointment and disapproval from fans, most notably Eminem stans, who wasted no time in criticizing the rap legend.
For neutrals, one of the most common criticisms of Mel’s diss dubbed “Melle Mel’s Response” was that it was not very creative. Numerous people felt Mel failed to introduce any fresh or noteworthy elements deserving of a response.
Another common criticism was that it was too short. The track is only about one minute and 12 seconds long, which is not a lot of time to make a strong impression. Some people felt that Mel should have taken more time to write a better diss track or potentially refrained from releasing one altogether.
For Eminem stans, opinions were resolutely biased. “One fan posted a snippet of the diss record and called Melle Mel’s effort “the worst piece of music released in 2023.”
Conscious hip-hop rapper Saigon called the feud between Mel and Eminem the “WORST rap beef in history…… With or without the bad songs.”
“I never thought it was possible to make a worse diss than Nick Cannon’s disses to Em. Today, I was proven wrong. Well done,” one person wrote, while another added: “Between YOU, THE GAME and NICK , I think you might beat them in having the worst disstrack EM has ever gotten.”
Another person wrote, “Yeah Eminem is not gonna respond to this Medieval ass disstrack.”
Someone else added, “Melle Mel rap like a nigga who hasn’t listened to hip-hop since Melle Mel was hot.”
The saga between Melle Mel and Eminem ensued after The Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five member questioned Eminem’s standing during a March interview with the Art of Dialogue. In the conversation, the 62-year old rap veteran attributed Em’s success in the rap game to his skin color.
“Obviously, he’s a capable rapper. If you was talking about sales, he’s sold more than everybody. If you were talking about rhyme style, okay he got a rhyme style. But he’s white. He’s white!” He said.
“So now if Eminem was another n-gga like all the rest of us, would he be top five on that list when an n-gga that could rhyme just as good as him is 35?” Mel continued. “That had records and all that? He’s 35. He’s white. And anybody could be as mad… They could feel how they wanna feel. If you don’t think that race plays a part in the equation of how great he is.”
Em responded to those remarks directly on Ez Mil’s single “The Realest.” Unfortunately for Ez, the controversial verse didn’t do him much favor because no one remembers his verse.
