42 Dugg is back on the streets, and he’s ready to make music. The Detroit rapper was released from prison early after serving six months for gun possession. According to TMZ, Dugg was greeted by family, friends, and his CMG Records boss Yo Gotti on Monday outside the Georgia prison where he had been since May 2022.
After a warm welcome home, Dugg and his family immediately got some food and headed straight to the studio per TMZ. The rapper has been eager to get back to his music, and he’s reportedly working on new material.
Upon regaining his freedom, 42 Dugg will be under a supervised release program for three years. He also had to cough up a $20,000 fine and will need to remain drug-free.
42 Dugg was sentenced to a year in prison in April after pleading guilty to prison evasion. His time behind bars wasn’t without its challenges, and back in May of this year, he spoke out about the tough conditions. He claimed he was being unlawfully detained past his court date and felt the U.S. Marshals were playing mind games with him.
He also claimed that he had no access to hot water to heat food and had been denied family visits.
“I’m in jail for going to the gun range, dropping dirty, and failure to appear. I didn’t steal from anybody, hurt anybody, but they’re handling me crazy. Man, I’m in this place heating my food up with the water from the nasty shower. They don’t even give us hot water to heat our food up, there’s no microwave, I can’t get any visits from my family, nothing. I’m sure they’re going to pull some more illegal stuff, but am I supposed to die in this place for a probation violation?”
Shortly after the “We Paid” artist’s complaints became public, Gotti took to Instagram, offering $2 million to any lawyer who could secure an early release for the rapper. “That’s my birthday wish,” the Memphis native proclaimed.
Dugg’s release comes just in time for the upcoming CMG Tour, featuring Moneybagg Yo, GloRilla, EST Gee, and more. The tour is set to kick off in November and will hit major cities across the United States.
