Aaron Carter’s official cause of death has been revealed. According to The Los Angeles Medical Examiner, the former child star drowned in the bathtub of his Lancaster home after inhaling difluoroethane, a flammable gas found in spray cans, and taking alprazolam, the generic form of Xanax.
As reported by TMZ, the autopsy states Carter was “incapacitated while in the bathtub due to the effects” of the substances, which caused him to slip under the water and drown.
In a statement to TMZ, Carter’s former fiancée and mother of his son, Melanie Martin questioned the reports of the autopsy.
“The results of the autopsy are not closure for me,” Martin told the outlet. “It claims death is by drowning but also adds he was wearing a t-shirt and necklace in the bathtub which doesn’t make sense, why would he be in a bathtub with clothes on? I am still in shock and still miss Aaron every day. I don’t understand the chain of events and this report only has us asking more questions.”
Aaron Carter was found dead in his bathtub at his Lancaster, California home on November 5th, 2022. He was 34 years old.
Although police initially ruled out foul play, last month Carter’s mother, Jane Schneck shared images of the bathtub and home he died in and called for a criminal investigation into his death, stating that her son “had a lot of death threats and many many people who were making his life miserable.”
