According to their report, Laura was traveling eastbound on Highway 62 when a westbound vehicle attempting to overtake another car on the undivided highway collided head-on with her vehicle. Laura was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries and received medical attention.

Authorities have launched a full investigation into the incident.

Lynch, along with Robin Lynn Macy, Martie Erwin and Emily Erwin formed the band in 1989, originally under the name Dixie Chicks. The group primarily performed bluegrass music in their early years, with Lynch playing upright bass and sharing vocal duties with Macy. Following Macy’s departure in 1993, Lynch briefly took center stage as the sole lead vocalist. After six years, three albums, and countless gigs, Natalie Maines joined, ushering in a new era.

The new lineup embraced a more contemporary pop sound, leading to immense commercial success. In 2020, Dixie Chicks rebranded themselves as The Chicks due to word “Dixie” having connotations with American slavery.

Beyond her musical contributions, Lynch was known for her warmth, humor, and dedication to her craft. She was married to her high school sweetheart, rancher Mac Tull, whom she shares a daughter with.

As news of her passing spreads, fans and colleagues take to social media to express their condolences and celebrate her life. The Chicks’ official Instagram account shared a statement.

“We are shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of Laura Lynch, a founding member of The Chicks. We hold a special place in our hearts for the time we spent playing music, laughing and traveling together. Laura was a bright light…her infectious energy and humor gave a spark to the early days of our band. Laura had a gift for design, a love of all things Texas and was instrumental in the early success of the band. Her undeniable talents helped propel us beyond busking on street corners to stages all across Texas and the mid-West.”
