A Texas pastor isn’t happy with Kanye West’s usage of one of his religious speeches and is seeking damages
TMZ reports Bishop David Paul Moten has filed a lawsuit against Kanye, UMG Recordings, Def Jam Recordings, and G.O.O.D Music, for sampling his audio sermon on “Come To Life” from Ye’s tenth studio album “DONDA” without getting permission.
According to court docs, Moten claims Kanye West used his sermon for “ 70 seconds of the 5-minute, 10-second track … which is more than 20 percent of the song.” Moten says his voice and sermon are used both in the intro and looped throughout the song, and reportedly slammed Ye and the music industry for “willfully and egregiously sampling sound recordings of others without consent or permission.”
Moten is seeking damages.
Kanye West released Donda last August. The album debuted atop the Billboard 200, selling roughly 309,000 equivalent album units in its first week.
