Rapper Tory Lanez has been handed a 10-year prison sentence for the 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion. The conclusion of the high-profile trial saw Lanez found guilty on multiple charges, including assault with a semiautomatic firearm. The incident, which occurred after a pool party in the Hollywood Hills, sparked widespread attention and discussions about violence against women and accountability.

As the news of the verdict spreads, public reaction to the sentencing has been mixed. Some people have praised the judge for sending a strong message about violence against women, while others have expressed concern that the sentence is too harsh.

One person tweeted, “I want y’all to realize Tory had the opportunity to take a plea deal and serve damn there no time. INSTEAD, he was so arrogant in the process bc he thought painting Megan as a liar on social media would hold up on trial. It backfired in the worst way possible.

The person continued, “The judge took so much notice to that and the scrambling of lies he gave to get a lighter sentence. Do I think 10 years is a lot? Yes. All he had to be was a decent person and have empathy and this could have been different. So I don’t feel bad for him. He’s an awful human.”

Another person tweeted, “Tory Lanez didn’t deserve 10 years. That’s insane. They’ll crucify a black man any chance they get.”

A third person wrote, “The only thing I have to say about this Tory Lanez sentencing is that he is an abuser. He’s harmed more than one woman. 10 years is not enough and it’s very hard to rehabilitate repeat offenders with no remorse. Prayers to Megan Thee Stallion and any other woman he has abused.”

“Damn they gave my dawg Tory Lanez 10 years in prison.. a whole decade 😳,” wrote DJ Akademiks.

“While Tory Lanez deserve some level of punishment that did not warrant 10 years in prison, I had expect the most 5 years come on now that case was not cut and clear to be given such large sentence,” another person wrote on the. Social app now known as X.

Megan Thee Stallion has not yet commented on the sentencing. However, District Attorney, George Gascon, said in a statement that she “commend Megan Pete for her incredible bravery and vulnerability as she underwent months of probing investigation and court appearances where she had to relive her trauma, and the public scrutiny that followed.”

In a post-sentence press briefing, Lanez’s attorney Jose Baez called the verdict “incredibly harsh” and alleged the rapper is being punished because of his celebrity status. Baez says he plans to appeal the verdict.
