The Weeknd Is First Artist To Reach 100 Million Monthly Spotify Listeners

The Weeknd, on Monday (February 27) became the first artist in Spotify history to reach 100 million monthly listeners.

The streaming platform announced the milestone on social media, writing; “It’s official: On February 27, The Weeknd became the first artist in Spotify History to reach 100 Million monthly listeners.”

The achievement comes just a few days after The Weeknd released a remix of “Die For You” featuring Ariana Grande. The original, which appeared on his 2016 album Starboy has received an increase in streams after going viral on TikTok, and is currently at number seven on the US charts.

The closest competition for The Weeknd, born Abel Tesfaye is Miley Cyrus with 82.5 million. Taylor Swift is third (80.33 million), and Rihanna, who saw an increase in streams after her Apple Music Super Bowl halftime performance is fourth (79.44 million). Shakira rounds up the top 5 with 77.46 million listeners.

Some of The Weeknd’s current most popular tracks on Spotify include Creepin’, Die For You, Starboy and Blinding Lights. Earlier this month he became the first artist to have three Diamond singles on one project after “Earned It” from his 2015 studio LP Beauty Behind The Madness earned Diamond certification.
