Fatman Scoop, the renowned hip-hop hype man known for his energetic performances, has died at the age of 53 after collapsing onstage during a performance in Hamden, Connecticut.
Scoop, whose real name was Isaac Freeman III, was performing at Hamden Town Center Park on Friday, August 30, when he suddenly collapsed. According to fans at the venue, he was given CPR on the scene and then transported to a nearby hospital.
The incident occurred at around 8:33 PM, when witnesses say Scoop appeared to suffer a medical emergency. Video footage obtained by TMZ shows a shirtless Scoop walking around the stage before collapsing behind the DJ booth as onlookers expressed concern.
Early Saturday morning, August 31, Scoop’s DJ and tour manager, Birch “Pure Cold” Michael, confirmed the tragic news of his death via Instagram. “I am honestly lost for words,” Michael wrote. “You took me all over the world and had me performing alongside you on some of the biggest and greatest stages on this planet. The things you taught me have truly made me the man I am today. Thank you so much, I love you.”
The Reminisce Festival, a UK event where Scoop was scheduled to perform later this fall, also confirmed his death in a heartfelt statement. “This loss has left us all heartbroken,” the festival’s Instagram account posted. “Scoop was not just one of our most popular performers, he was a cherished member of the Reminisce family. His energy, talent, and infectious spirit will be missed more than words can express.”
Fatman Scoop was best known for his high-energy contributions to hit tracks like Missy Elliott’s “Lose Control” and Mariah Carey’s “It’s Like That.” His breakout single, “Be Faithful,” released in 1999 and re-released in 2003, became a club anthem and solidified his status in the music industry.
