Kanye West is no longer among the wealthiest people in the world. The Yeezy founder’s net worth dropped from a reported $2 billion to less than $500M after adidas severed ties with him following his anti-Semitic remarks last year.
Ye is now worth $398 million according to Forbes’ list published on Tuesday (April 4).
The College Dropout entered the prestigious billionaires list in 2020, but was eventually stripped of the status after he challenged adidas to end their nearly-decade long partnership with him in the wake of his hate speech against jews.
“I can say antisemitic sh-t and Adidas cannot drop me,” Ye proclaimed on Drink Champs. The German company ultimately called his bluff and ended their relationship, which Forbes reports set West back $1.5 billion as the Yeezy sneakers deal made up the lion’s share of his wealth.
“adidas does not tolerate anti-Semitism and any other sort of hate speech,” a statement from the company read. “Ye’s recent comments and actions have been unacceptable, hateful and dangerous, and they violate the company’s values of diversity and inclusion, mutual respect and fairness.”
The statement continued: “After a thorough review, the company has taken the decision to terminate the partnership with Ye immediately, end production of Yeezy branded products and stop all payments to Ye and his companies. adidas will stop the adidas Yeezy business with immediate effect.”
The breakdown of what’s left of the 46-year-old’s stash are investments valued at roughly $100 million, his music catalog ($130 million), and his 5% stake in Kim Kardashian’s shapewear company Skims ($128 million.)
Kanye West was ranked 1513 on last year’s list. His ex-wife, Kim Kardashian is at No. 2259 with a reported net worth of $1.2B.
