Lil Wayne‘s journey in hip-hop spans one of the longest and most successful careers in the industry. The New Orleans native has been making music since he was a teenager and has managed to stay consistent and relevant well into his 40s. Speaking with Billboard in a new cover issue celebrating 50 years of Hip Hop, the Young Money founder credited his staying power to his work ethic and expressed gratitude for his career
“I don’t have a secret,” Wayne humbly shared. “I just work. I keep going, never stopping. It’s all about the work ethic, plain and simple. I dedicate myself solely to my music.”
“And also, in my mind, every single time I say the word ‘work,’ I ask God to forgive me. Cuz I know this has never been a job. It’s just a dream come true. So that’s why I’ve never stopped.”
During the interview, the rap legend also discussed the idea of AI replacing rappers in the future. Wayne believes that AI won’t be able to replicate his unique talent in the studio due to his unparalleled originality.
He humorously scoffed at the suggestion that AI could mimic his voice, stating, “I am amazing, and AI can’t be amazing like me. I am naturally, organically one-of-a-kind. So let’s see that thing try to duplicate this!”

Weezy’s comments about AI comes just as fellow rapper Lupe Fiasco teamed up with Google to launch TextFX, a new AI language aimed at helping rappers write better lyrics.
