The cause of death of MF DOOM has been revealed as a rare and severe reaction to blood pressure medication, a condition known as angioedema.
Jasmine Dumile, the wife of the rapper, said that her husband had been battling a number of health conditions, including kidney disease and high blood pressure. DOOM, who had been living in Leeds was hospitalized at St. James’s Hospital, where he was prescribed ACE inhibitors to treat his blood pressure.
However, after just two doses of the medication he developed a rare and severe reaction, which caused swelling in his mouth and throat. This led to breathing problems, and he died as a result.
Doctors said that the swelling of his tongue, throat, and lips was a “rare” side effect of taking ACE inhibitors, which had brought on a condition called angiodema.
According to NHS Inform, Angioedema is a condition that causes swelling of the face, lips, tongue, throat, and other parts of the body. It can be caused by a number of factors, including allergies, medications, and underlying medical conditions.
During the inquest into his death, Jasmine expressed dissatisfaction with her husband’s treatment at St. James’s Hospital, claiming he was unable to alert medical staff to his deteriorating condition as his buzzer was out of reach. She also claimed that he had been placed in a room that was not properly equipped.
“I don’t want to say it was an old storage room…it wasn’t set up. Maybe it was a room a long time ago. It did have a bed in it,” She said per LeedsLive.
Jasmine revealed that she couldn’t visit her husband in hospital due to Covid pandemic restrictions: “I was not able to see him until the 31st (of October) – that’s when the respirator was turned off that was helping him breathe.”
Jasmine further alleges that medical staff failed to check on her husband on a frequent basis and were two hours late administrating a medication.
However, Doctors stated that his condition was being monitored, and he showed signs of improvement before suddenly collapsing and experiencing respiratory arrest. The inquiring is still ongoing.
MF Doom died on October 31, 2020, at the age of 49. His wife announced his tragic death with a heartfelt post on Doom’s Instagram page:
“To Dumile. The greatest husband, father, teacher, student, business partner, lover and friend I could ever ask for,” his wife wrote. “Thank you for all the things you have shown, taught and given to me, our children and our family. Thank you for teaching me how to forgive beings and give another chance, not to be so quick to judge and write off. Thank you for showing how not to be afraid to love and be the best person I could ever be. My world will never be the same without you. Words will never express what you and Malachi mean to me, I love both and adore you always. May THE ALL continue to bless you, our family and the planet. All my Love, Jasmine.”
The British-born rapper’s death was a shock to the hip-hop community, and several of his fans and colleagues in the industry took time out to pay their condolences.
