The Notorious B.I.G. allegedly shed tears the first time he heard 2Pac’s Hit ‘Em Up, claims Lance “Un” Rivera. The Record executive and film director made the claims while discussing the origin of Biggie and 2Pac’s infamous beef with DJ Vlad.
He starts off detailing what the reaction was when they first heard Hit Em Up, which samples Junior M.A.F.I.A.’s Get Money record.
“So we had this hit record called ‘Get Money’ and we had a remix to it and all of a sudden, ‘Pac comes home and we’re at a video shoot and somebody plays ‘Hit ‘Em Up’ for us and we all looked at each other like, ‘What the f-ck just happened?’” Rivera said.
Lance explained he wanted to return the shots immediately, suggesting they make a track and video targeting Death Row and Suge Knight. However, BIG declined.
“I’m ready to go to war. I wanted to shoot a video the next day, make a song the next day and make one of those videos targeting Suge and Death Row,” he continued. “And Big was like, ‘Nah we’re not gonna do anything. We’re not gonna even respond.’”
Vlad then brought up Rivera’s 2017 interview with DJ Self, where he revealed Biggie cried listening to “Hit ‘Em Up,” after hearing Pac’s claim that he had slept with the late rapper’s then-wife Faith Evans.
“I was in the room when he heard Faith and 2Pac,” the record exec said in the 2017 interview. Lance “Un” Rivera confirmed that it was a true story: “He cried like a baby!” Lance told Vlad.
In a different clip from the same Vlad TV interview, Lance confirmed The Notorious B.I.G. threatened to cut ties with Junior M.A.F.I.A. if any member dared to respond to “Hit ‘Em Up.”
