Bob Heatlie a Scottish songwriter and record producer has died. The Scotsman passed away on Saturday (8 April 2023) with his friends and family taking to social media to pay tribute.
Bob’s good friend, Shakin’ Stevens confirmed the tragic news with a post on Twitter: ‘Last weekend we heard the sad news that our dear friend, Bob Heatlie, had passed away.
Bob Heaie developed a love for music at a younger age and was consistent throughout his career rising through the ranks to become one of the most sought-after songwriters. Heatlie collaborated with many music acts while he was alive, both bands and solo artists, and was also successful in producing musical scores of television entertainment series.
He’s best known for writing Shakin’ Stevens hit, “Merry Christmas Everyone” which became Christmas number one in 1985. His work with Shakin’ Stevens began in 1983, with the single “Cry Just a Little Bit”, “Breaking Up My Heart” came next, before “Merry Christmas Everyone”
Heatlie also wrote “Japanese Boy” for Scottish folk singer, Mary Sandeman, better known by her stage name, Aneka. It topped the charts in 1981.
He’s credited on Cliff Richard’s song “Locked Inside Your Prison”. In later years, Heatlie concentrated on creating musical compositions for children’s television including; “Little Robots” and “Trapdoor”.
Heatlie also composed the music for the documentary series Worlds Apart and the television special The Curious Case of Santa Claus.
