Bob Lee, the CEO of Cash App, has reportedly been stabbed to death in San Fransico.
According to reports, the 43-year-old was attacked early Tuesday morning near Rincon Hill and the Bay Bridge. Police say he was rushed to the hospital after the fatal stabbing but succumbed to his injuries.
Joshua Goldbard, CEO of MobileCoin, where Lee was serving as the CPO announced his tragic death in a statement to NBC. ‘Our dear friend and colleague, Bob Lee passed away yesterday at the age of 43, survived by a loving family and collection of close friends and collaborators,’ said Goldbrad. He also spoke glowingly about Lee and his time at MobileCoin.
‘Bob was a dynamo, a force of nature. Bob was the genuine article. He was made for the world that is being born right now, he was a child of dreams, and whatever he imagined, no matter how crazy, he made real.’
Lee’s brother, Tim Oliver said on Facebook that he was ‘saddened and disheartened’ by the loss. He also thanked everyone that offered condolences to the family.
Their father Rick added: ‘I moved to Mill Valley, CA with Bob after his mother died in 2019 and we recently relocated to Miami in Oct 2022.
‘Life has been an adventure with two bachelors living together, and I’m so happy that we were able to become so close these last years.
‘Bob would give you the shirt off his back. He would never look down on anyone and adhered to a strict no-judgment philosophy.
‘Bobby worked harder than anyone and was the smartest person I have ever known. He will be missed by all those that knew him.’
Bob Lee Death Cause: How Did Bob Lee Die?
In his final moments, Lee was reportedly seen at 2:30am on Tuesday clutching his side with one hand, and holding his phone with another while walking up Main Street, near Rincon Park. The San Francisco Standard reports he crosses the intersection with Harrison Street and approaches a waiting white Toyota Camry, which some speculated could be a ride share he called for help.
But the car drives off after Lee lifts up his shirt to show his stab wounds. He then staggers up the hill and collapses in front of 403 Main Street, an apartment complex named the Portside.
‘Police responded to the stabbing on Main Street around 2:35 a.m. to find a man with stab wounds,’ Law enforcement officials said in a statement. ‘The victim was rushed to the hospital where he died.’
No arrests have been made as of yet and San Fransico PD hasn’t revealed any details about the alleged suspect. However, some of his friends and colleagues believe he was the target of a mugging.
‘I just found out my good friend was killed last night while walking home in San Francisco. He was in the “good” part of the city and appeared to have been targeted in a random mugging/attack,’ tweeted Jake Shields
Jack Dorsey, founder of Square said: ‘It’s real. Getting calls. Heartbreaking. Bob was instrumental to Square and Cash App. STL guy.’
Twitter CEO Elon Musk also commented on the horrific incident: ‘Very sorry to hear that. Many people I know have been severely assaulted. Violent crime in SF is horrific and even if attackers are caught, they are often released immediately.’
