Drake is a Black man from Toronto, Canada but his roots can be traced to Nigeria. The 36 year old took to his Instagram stories on Sunday (May 7) to reveal his father’s ancestry results.
Per the results, his father, Dennis Graham is 30% Nigerian. “This is my dad’s results,” he captioned the screenshot. “Does this mean I’m Naija man finally?” He asked.
The Certified Lover Boy has collaborated with a few Nigerian artist in the past including Davido, Tems and Wizkid. His “One Dance” collaboration with the latter went Diamond in the U.S and earned Drake his first number one on the chart as a lead artist.
Drake is one out of many Black people in the diaspora who have discovered their Nigerian ancestry. Last year, Meghan Markle revealed she is 43% Nigerian. American rapper, Lil Wayne also said he is 53% Nigerian.
“Shout out to Nigeria, I did my ancestry dot com and my shit came back like 53% Nigerian,” he disclosed on Drink Champs. “Yea! Me and my mum need to have a talk.”
The result also revealed Drake’s father has roots in Cameroon, Congo, Ivory Coast and Ghana.
