Earlier this month Nicki Minaj announced an October release date for her long awaited fifth LP. Although she failed to disclose a name for the album, the Barbz were naturally excited for the upcoming release.
Now in a new lengthy post shared on Instagram Thursday (June 29), Red Ruby Da Sleeze has revealed a name for the LP. However, fans would have to wait an extra month for its arrival.
“Dear Barbz, I’ve been trying to find the right time to tell you this for a few days. Due to some really exciting news that I’ll share with you guys @ a later time, I’ve shifted the album date just a tad bit,” the Nicki wrote on Twitter. “Trust me, it’ll be WELL WORTH THE WAIT…but since I AM shifting the date just a tad, I’d like to give you guys a tiny SIP of some more album tea so that I don’t have to get cussed out.”
According to Nicki, her first album in five years will be a follow up to her critically acclaimed debut album Pink Friday.
“MY NEW ALBUM WILL BE RELEASED ON 11.17.23. and shall be called: Pink Friday 2,” she announced.
Nicki went on to thank her fans for their unyielding support and promised to reward them with a tour sometime in the first quarter of 2024.
“I love you guys so much. I am so grateful for the years of support and love you guys have given me. At times maybe I didn’t even deserve all that you have poured into me,” she continued. “Nevertheless, you. will. love. this. album.
“I will give tour deets closer to that time, but obviously the tour will start around the first quarter of 2024.
To close out the note, she promised to make another announcement where she’ll unveil the “Pink Friday 2” album cover art.
“Pink Friday 2” will be Minaj’s first full-length release since 2018’s Queen. In the years since, she has continued to release new music, including the hit singles “Super Freaky Girl” and “Red Ruby Da Sleeze.” She has also made several guest appearances on other artists’ songs, including the remix of Ice Spice’s “Princess Diana,” and most recently joined Sexyy Red for “Pound Town 2.”
The original “Pink Friday” arrived in 2010 under Lil Wayne’s Young Money imprint. The album received generally positive reviews from critics and was a commercial success, debuting at number two on the Billboard 200 chart. It spawned several hit singles, including “Roman’s Revenge,” “Moment 4 Life” featuring Drake, and “Your Love.” These tracks helped solidify Nicki Minaj’s presence in the mainstream music scene and propelled her to international stardom.
In 2020, she celebrated the 10th anniversary of Pink Friday with a deluxe edition featuring eight bonus tracks. It would be interesting to see how the sequel compares to the original.
