Hip-hop entrepreneur Dame Dash has declared Kendrick Lamar the victor in his recent rap battle with Drake. On his America Nu Network, the Roc-A-Fella Records co-founder weighed in on the heated feud:
“As far as fighting goes, in this moment, Kendrick won,” he said. “It’s almost by far now. Last week, it was neck and neck, but after the last exchange with the pedophile thing and the response and the [impact] of ‘Not Like Us,’ it seems like he’s disrupted Drake’s life.”
He continued: “I don’t know what’s going on over there with the shooting at [Drake’s] crib, but what I’m finding out is so many people that you might not think are like that or involved in certain things, those be the ones where you’re like, ‘Goddamn, they were doing that!’
Dash went even further, calling the hotly contested feud the greatest rap battle of all time.
“This has been the best battle of all time,” he declared. “I’ve been here in Hip Hop for a while — this has been the most impactful battle to where it looks like the battle songs are changing the trajectory of that artist’s life.
“It just seems like things are different for Drake right now. I’ve never seen this happen before.”
However, not everyone is celebrating the lyrical warfare. Legendary drummer and member of the Roots Questlove recently took to Instagram to express his disapproval of the feud. In a post captioned “Here We Are Now… Entertain us,” he criticized both rappers for resorting to personal attacks and involving family members.
“Nobody won this war,” Questlove wrote. “This wasn’t about skill. This was a wrestling match level mudslinging and takedown by any means necessary — women & children (& actual facts) be damned.
He went on to criticize fans who fueled the flames of the feud: “Same audience wanting blood will soon put up ‘rip’ posts like they weren’t part of the problem. Hip Hop is truly dead.”
