A disturbing video recently surfaced online showing music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs assaulting his former girlfriend, singer Cassie Ventura, in 2016. In response, Diddy released a public apology, taking full responsibility for his actions.
The video, obtained by CNN, shows a shirtless Diddy throwing Ventura to the ground, kicking her, and dragging her down a hallway. These actions mirror the allegations Cassie made against the Bad Boy founder in a now-settled lawsuit.
Diddy acknowledged the seriousness of his actions, calling them “inexcusable” and expressing deep remorse.
“It’s so difficult to reflect on the darkest times in your life, sometimes you gotta do that. I was fucked up,” he admitted. “I mean no excuses. My behaviour on that video is inexcusable. I take full responsibility for my actions in that video. I’m disgusted, I was disgusted then when I did it and I’m disgusted now.”
He revealed seeking therapy and professional help in the aftermath of the incident. “I’m committed to being a better man each and every day,” he stated, while acknowledging he’s not asking for forgiveness.
Despite the public outcry, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office announced they wouldn’t pursue charges due to the statute of limitations.
“We find the images extremely disturbing and difficult to watch,” the office of L.A. District Attorney George Gascón wrote in a statement on Instagram Friday (May 17). “If the conduct depicted occurred in 2016, unfortunately we would be unable to charge as the conduct would have occurred beyond the timeline where a crime of assault can be prosecuted.”
Cassie’s attorney, Douglas H. Wigdor, praised her bravery in coming forward. He stated, “The video confirms the disturbing and predatory behavior of Mr. Combs.”
Diddy and Cassie dated on and off from 2007 to 2018. Their relationship began when Cassie was 19 and Diddy was 37. Cassie’s lawsuit alleges that Diddy exerted controlling behavior throughout their relationship.
