Eminem has unveiled the title of his highly anticipated 12th studio album: “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce).”  Set for a summer release, the announcement arrived in a dramatic trailer released on social media following his appearance at the NFL Draft.

The short film features a fictional true-crime reporter narrating the “death” of Slim Shady, Eminem’s infamous alter ego.

“Through his complex and oft-criticized, tongue-twisting rhymes, the anti-hero known as Slim Shady has had no shortage of enemies,” the reporter can be heard saying.

“The same rude lyrics and controversial antics may have ultimately led to his demise. Join me as we recreate the events that led to the murder of Slim Shady.”

Eminem himself even makes a brief appearance, acknowledging the alter ego’s approaching end: “I knew it was only a matter of time for Slim.”

The trailer also includes a cameo from 50 Cent, who throws shade at the character, calling him a “psychopath.”

The album announcement comes almost a month after Dr. Dre confirmed that Eminem’s new album would be arriving later this year. During a Jimmy Kimmel appearance, Dre revealed, “Eminem is working on his own album which is coming out this year and I actually talked to him and he said it was okay for me to make that announcement right here on this show.”

He also mentioned that he has contributed songs to the album and described it as amazing. “I’ve got songs on it and it’s fire. I’m actually going to hear the entire album for the first time tomorrow.”

Slim Shady, first introduced on the 1997 “Slim Shady EP,” has been a cornerstone of Eminem’s career. The character often served as a vessel for his most aggressive and violent lyrics, fueling his reputation as a controversial figure.  Songs like “Guilty Conscience,” “’97 Bonnie and Clyde,” and even the aptly titled “Kill You” all feature Slim Shady at the forefront.
