Kanye West‘s daughter, North West, is known for her outspoken personality and has been making headlines for her candid assessments of her mother’s fashion choices. In a recent episode of “The Kardashians,” North shared her honest opinion about Kim Kardashian’s 2023 Met Gala dress, which was custom-made by Schiaparelli and featured over 50,000 freshwater pearls.
During a fitting with Schiaparelli creative director Daniel Roseberry, North bluntly expressed her opinions on the full-length gown, leaving Kim scrambling to defend the elaborate and expensive design.
“There’s way too much gaps in the pearls. It looks like she’s a Hawaiian girl with her dress all ripped. The pearls look fake,” North commented.
Kim attempted to explain that the pearls were “very expensive, real pearls,” but North remained unconvinced.
“It’s looking like beachy… it’s, like, the diamonds ruin it,” she continued. North even suggested that her mother could look “a little better” and that the pearls look like they were gotten “from the dollar store.”
As Daniel witnessed the exchange, he admitted it felt like he was the victim of a prank, and that the reaction was his “worst nightmare.”
Kim, who is known for her impeccable style, was taken aback by her daughter’s harsh criticism. She reminded North that honesty is important, but it’s also important to be mindful of others’ feelings. “I’m trying to teach her, like, you don’t need to just jump in and annihilate people for no reason. There’s a way to be honest without hurting people’s feelings,” she explained to the camera during a confessional.
Despite the dress’s elaborate design and high price tag, North insisted that she wasn’t a fan of it. The 10-year-old also revealed that her favorite Met Gala outfit of her mom’s was her custom-made Thierry Mugler wet-look dress from 2019.
The young fashion critic also extended her critiques to other outfits from the 2023 Met Gala. During a livestream chat, North and her cousin Penelope Disick, daughter of Kim’s sister Kourtney Kardashian, called Jared Leto’s cat costume “cringe.” Leto wore the costume in tribute to Karl Lagerfeld’s feline Choupette.
North also expressed her disdain for Kim’s former boyfriend Pete Davidson’s casual attire, which consisted of a black bucket hat, sunglasses, and a tie-dye T-shirt.
“You’re going to the Met Gala, Pete. Not the gas station,” she quipped.
