A$AP Rocky has been charged with felony assault with a firearm, which stems from the November 2021 shooting of Terell Ephron popularly known as A$AP Relli.
Ephron revealed Rocky — born Rakim Mayers— fired multiple rounds at him after luring him to an obscure location in Hollywood to “discuss a disagreement between the two of them.” He further alleges that he suffered physical, mental and emotional injuries, while also receiving death threats.
Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón ruled in his favor, and charged Rocky for assault with semiautomatic firearm ahead of his arraignment on Wednesday (Aug. 17).
“Discharging a gun in a public place is a serious offense that could have ended with tragic consequences not only for the person targeted but also for innocent bystanders visiting Hollywood,” said L.A. County District Attorney George Gascón. “My office conducted a thorough review of the evidence in this case and determined that the addition of a special firearm allegation was warranted.”
Ephron is seeking at least $25,000 in damages, while Rocky faces up to nine years behind bars if convicted.
Relli’s attorney, Jamal Tooson tells TMZ that his cleint feels vindicated the justice system worked for him, despite the stature of A$AP Rocky. Relli, who is a music producer, felt the case would be dismissed as a money grab because ”Rocky is so powerful in Hollywood and specifically in the music industry.”
His lawyer goes on to say Relli’s faith in the justice system has been restored, because both the police and the D.A. believed him enough to file two serious felony charges against Rocky.
