When J. Cole and Lil Yachty dropped their collaborative track, “The Secret Recipe,” fans speculated that the North Carolina native might be taking shots at NBA YoungBoy.
However, Dreamville co-founder Ibrahim Hamad swiftly addressed these rumors. Responding to a social media post by Say Cheese hinting at a Cole diss, Hamad stated, “I’m pretty sure this is [cap]. Not sure how y’all heard that Cole verse and put that together, impressive,” Hamad wrote via X (formerly known as Twitter).
NBA YoungBoy previously dissed eveyone who has a relationship with his longtime rival Lil Durk on “F-ck the Industry Pt. 2,” including Drake and J. Cole, specifically calling out the latter for choosing to work with Lil Durk over him.
“J a ho, that n—-a played it cold like he was gon’ do a feature/So I texted his line a muscle sign, I swear it’s gon’ be nice to meet you,” NBA YoungBoy rapped.
Though J. Cole’s “The Secret Recipe” verse didn’t explicitly mention NBA YoungBoy, some internet users speculated it could be a subtle response to YoungBoy’s remarks in “F—k the Industry Pt. 2.”
“Only breaking bad in the lab, thought y’all was making meth/N—-as making threats and I laugh, that’s ’cause you ain’t a threat/Don’t ask how I feel ’bout no rappers, sh-t, they OK, I guess/Incoming call, press the button, the one that say accept/He FaceTime to ask for a feature and saw the face of death/I’m on your song, your streams going up, not quite the Drake effect/But don’t complain, b-tch, take what you get and cut the label check,” J. Cole rapped.
Meanwhile, J. Cole continues to turn heads with his guest verses. His collaboration with Lil Yachty on “The Secret Recipe” adds another standout feature to his impressive run in 2023, which already boasts collaborations with the likes of Lil Durk, J. Hope, Summer Walker, Gucci Mane, and Burna Boy.
