Jay-Z remains the worlds richest hip hop artist with a net worth of $2.5 billion, a new personal record for the rapper from the Marcy projects.
According to Forbes, majority of his earnings comes from his 50% stake in his Armand de Brignac champagne and D’Usse cognac, which the business magazine notes ‘mint millions.’
Jay-Z was crowned hip-hop’s first billionaire in 2019, thanks to his sprawling investments in real estate, art, SpaceX, Sweetgreen, Uber, and more. His net worth jumped significantly to $1.4 billion in 2021 following the sell of his majority stake in music streaming company Tidal, and Armand de Brignac. The 53-year-old sold his majority stake in Tidal to former twitter CEO Jack Dorsey’s mobile company Square for $297 million, a week after he sold half of his Armand de Brignac champagne to luxury brand LVMH’s Moët Hennessy for a massive $640 million.
In February, the father-of-three sold his “significant ownership stake” of his D’USSÉ cognac back to its parent company Bacardi for a reported $750 million after a nasty court battle.
Forbes also adds his stakes in Roc Nation and his music catalog are both worth about $230 million. He has about $70 million in art collection and a considerable amount of real estate.
Kanye ‘Ye’ West, on the other hand, who claimed to be worth around $6 billion saw his net worth drop dramatically after adidas severed ties with him following his anti-Semitic remarks. Ye is now worth $398 million according to Forbes.
