In his too short career, King Von established himself as one of his generation’s most vital storytellers, offering breathless intensity and visceral detail to animate the environment of his upbringing. This week, the late rapper’s estate announces his next album, Grandson will arrive July 14.
Lovingly assembled by Von’s closest collaborators, including producer Chopsquad DJ, the upcoming album features the same street sagas and invigorating anthems fans have come to expect, and will feature guest spots from some of Von’s heavy-hitting street rap peers, including his vulture Lil Durk.
Along with the announcement of Grandson, Von’s estate shares “Heartless,” a brand new collaboration between Von and Detroit don Tee Grizzley. Produced by Chopsquad DJ, “Heartless” is a cold blooded recounting of Von’s past, and the remorseless mentality he was forced to adapt to survive.
Tee Grizzley’s deadpan stick talk is an ideal complement to Von’s energetic delivery.
“Heartless” quickly follows “Robberies” a single from Grandson, which illustrates Von’s peerless storytelling ability.
“Grandson” is the follow-up to Von’s acclaimed posthumous album What It Means To Be King, released in March 2022, the album made a massive splash, reaching #2 on the Billboard 200 behind 59k first-week album-equivalent units sold.
