Rihanna is set to star in Paramount animation’s new Smurfs movie. As reported by Variety, the cosmetics billionaire voices Smurfette in the untitled film slated for release on Feb. 14, 2025.
“I’ll be playing Smurfette,” Rihanna announced at CinemaCon on Thursday, April 27. “I tried to get the Papa Smurf role, but it didn’t work out.”
In addition to the role, which will be her first animated voice over in nearly ten years. The new mother will also write, produce and record original music for the film.
“Getting to do animation is a fun journey for me,” Rihanna said per Indiewire. “I’m usually front and center with everything with my likeness…but this was fun, I got to imagine, I got to show up in my pajamas in my third trimester, and be a blue badass.”
She continued, “I hope this gives me a little bit of cool points with my kids one day.”
According to President of Paramount Animation Ramsey Naito, who joined Ri as she made the announcement, the upcoming Smurfs movie will explore identity and what it actually means to be a smurf.
The Smurfs Movie reboot, directed by Chris Miller will be Rihanna’s second time working as a voice actor in an animated film. She previously voiced Gratuity “Tip” Tucci in the 2015 Dreamworks animated movie Home.
