Travis Scott has achieved a remarkable feat on Spotify, surpassing a record previously held by Drake for the highest number of monthly listeners by a rapper on the streaming platform.
Chart Data reported on Thursday, (August 17) that Scott claimed the top spot with an impressive 74.945 million monthly listeners, setting an all-time record for Spotify’s most monthly listeners.
Joining the ranks of other notable rappers such as Eminem, Nicki Minaj, and Kanye West, Scott also ranks as Spotify’s 6th most streamed artist worldwide, positioned behind musical powerhouses like The Weeknd, Taylor Swift, Bad Bunny, Ed Sheeran, and Dua Lipa. This milestone comes shortly after the release of his highly-anticipated fourth album, “UTOPIA.”
Speaking of “UTOPIA,” the album’s debut was equally impressive. The long-awaited project soared to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, boasting substantial first-week sales. According to Billboard, “UTOPIA” moved an impressive 496,000 album-equivalent units. This figure was composed of 243,000 SEA units (equivalent to 330.68 million on-demand streams), an impressive 252,000 pure album sales, and 1,000 TEA units.
This achievement positioned “UTOPIA” as the third-largest week for any album in 2023, making it the most significant Hip Hop release of the year. Additionally, the album’s vinyl sales moved a remarkable 55,000 units, marking the highest sales tally for a rap album since tracking sales began in 1991.
While Scott currently holds the record, it’s highly plausible that Drake will reclaim the top position with the imminent arrival of his next album, “For All The Dogs,” expected to drop in the coming weeks. Although the album’s release date remains undisclosed, Drake recently revealed that the project will feature Latin superstar Bad Bunny.
Next up for Scott, the Houston native is geared up to embark on the Circus Maximus tour, bringing “UTOPIA” to life on stage.
