Drake is keeping the pressure on Kendrick Lamar and seems eager for a showdown. On Friday, April 19, the Toronto native officially released his diss track “Push Ups,” targeting Kendrick Lamar, Rick Ross, Future, The Weeknd and Metro Boomin, across all streaming services.
In a post accompanying the release, Drake called out Kendrick Lamar writing, “All platforms like the shoes you need… let’s get it bro.”
The song initially appeared online last week in what seemed to be an incomplete form. While some fans suspected it was the work of AI, DJ Akademiks later verified its legitimacy by playing the final version during his live stream.
In “Push Ups,” Drake targets Kendrick Lamar’s physical stature and dismissed his status as a top MC. He also suggests that Lamar is trapped in an unfavorable contract.
“Pull your contract ’cause we gotta see the split / Ain’t no way you doin’ splits bitch your pants might rip,” raps Drake. “Maroon 5 need a verse, you better make it witty / Then we need a verse for the Swifties / Top say drop, you better drop and give him 50.”
Kendrick Lamar has yet to issue a response. However, the Compton rapper was the first to take a jab, dissing both Drake and J. Cole on Future and Metro Boomin’s “Like That” from their joint album “We Don’t Trust You.”
Fans and the online community are still anticipating Kendrick Lamar’s countermove. Until then, listen to “Push Ups” below.
